My name is Hatice, and I immigrated to Canada 8 years ago from Turkey while pregnant in my second trimester. My personal experience as a new immigrant navigating the healthcare system lead me to study pregnancy care in depth. I initially completed a DONA birth doula training in 2012 and continued my training at UBC School of Medicine in the Department of Midwifery. For the last few years, I have supported many pregnant people prenatally, during birth and postpartum. As a previous midwifery student, I had the invaluable opportunity to learn from generous preceptors, and midwifery clients who involved me as a care-provider in their journey to parenthood. I value the importance of creating a strong community support system, especially for new comers lacking family/ friend’s social support. I am also passionate about providing culturally safe care to anybody who may be in need of extra sensitivity. These interests naturally guided me to join this collective of doulas with diverse backgrounds. Thus; I am looking forward to supporting my clients mentally, emotionally, and physically during their pregnancy and parenthood journey.
